ENews and Updates (April 14 2021)

Good afternoon,

We hope that you had a fun and relaxing spring recess.  We missed you.  Here are a few updates and reminders for this week.

Asynchronous Wednesday Asynchronous Wednesdays continue.  Following today's, the next one is April 28. Asynchronous Wednesday does not apply to students who attend full day in-person classes.  In-person classes will be held as scheduled.

Summer Enrichment Program Applications

The deadline for Summer Enrichment Program applications is 4 p.m. on Friday, April 16.

You can submit your application now by clicking here

The Summer Enrichment Program is designed to help prevent summer slide, specifically around literacy.  Students engage in project-based learning experiences that build natural curiosity, genuine inquiry and confidence.

The program is enhanced through partnerships with several community-based organizations that provide opportunities for real life, hands-on activities and field trips.  Of course, we also hope to be swimming this summer.

At this time, our plans are to provide an in-person program but we continue to monitor conditions and regulations around the pandemic.  If we are allowed to operate in-person, health and safety will remain a priority and all regulations, guidelines and safety protocols will be followed.

Yates Village Renovation/Relocation

If you live in Yates Village and are impacted by the renovations, we are here to support you with your child’s schooling and any related potential changes to enrollment.   We are aware that the next phase of the Yates Village project is getting underway.  We will work with you to minimize any potential disruptions and/or transitions that your children may face during this time.

Your primary point of contact is Travis Ghirdharie, the district’s Yates Village liaison.  His phone number is 518-649-0295 and email address is ghirdhariet@schenectady.k12.ny.us.  You can also submit any questions or concerns through Let’s Talk here.

Address Changes:  Address changes can be made at the school that your child attends.  The district’s registration office will also accept “proof of address” which must include the name and address of the parent or guardian and must be dated within 30 days.  Mr. Ghirdharie is working closely with Yates Village relocation coordinators to make sure we are aware of any changes as they occur.

If you are relocating to an address that remains within the Yates/Oneida zone, you will stay enrolled at the same school.  Please remember to provide your new address and any contact information.

If you are relocating to an address outside of Yates/Oneida, we will work with you to help minimize transitions for children as much as possible.  We recognize that every family has different circumstances so we will work directly with you.  The district’s policy is that if you move after October 15, your child can remain in their current school for the remainder of the school year.  Parents are however responsible for transportation.  You do have the choice of enrolling at the school within your new zone and will receive transportation if eligible.   Reach out to us so that we can work with you to find the solution that best fits your family’s circumstances.

We are happy to work with you and answer all your school-related questions.
