The Pledge of Allegiance
It is a promise of loyalty to the United States.

"I pledge allegiance to the flag."
The flag is a symbol of the USA.

"Of the United States of America."
 It is our country.

"And to the republic for which it stands."

A republic is a country with a president.

"One nation , under God."
 It is our country.

"Indivisible."

Indivisible means it can not be divided.

"With liberty and justice for all."
Liberty means freedom to think and act and speak.
Justice means everyone should be treated equally.

In 1923 the words changed from "to my flag" to "to the flag."
In October 1942 Congress made the pledge official.
In 1954 the words "under God" were added to the pledge by Congress.
