Project Description: After having been read a classic or a favorite trade book, children will brainstorm a list of words (one for each letter of the alphabet) that relate to the story. Each word will be used in a sentence. Each child will illustrate a sentence. (or two, or this could be done in pairs if your class is over 26 students.) Text should be keyboarded by the students, since the purpose of our grant is to increase the use of technology in the classroom. Please include your students’ first names only on their work.

For example:
After having listened to the story, " Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone," the following would be a possible list:

  1. Harry almost fell off of his broomstick in the Quidditch match
  2. Harry had a lightning bolt on his forehead.
  3. Gryffindor’s colors were red and gold.

Etc, etc, etc……..~or~ in a simpler vein:

After having listened to a Clifford Story…

Clifford is adorable.
Clifford is beautiful.
Clifford is cuddly.

Students’ work will need to be either

The first and second are the most logical options for Mac users.

Suggestions:
The illustrations and keyboarding can be done in a number of ways. Please use standard sized paper and a font of 36pt size. As I adjust the children’s work to fit it onto the site, the font gets smaller; so, it needs to start out at a good size in order to be readable.
