| African American Scientists | Internet Activity | Project Information | This is a research activity that will be used as a basis for a research based writing project the students will participate in with an African-American Studies class at the High School. Each student will visit a variety of sites, and use classroom and library resources, to gather information about an African-American Inventor and/or Scientist. They will use graphic organizers in the note taking process, create storyboards, and produce a short slide show in Power Point to share the information they have learned. |

This project was developed to assist 5th graders learn about the Fifth Grade Social Studies test given in November. To prepare for this test, the children will need to extract needed information; by finding a particular piece of information in a document, describing the main idea or purpose of a passage or picture, finding supporting details, and drawing a conclusion. Students will also have to know how to read and understand test questions, and how to write clearly. This collaborative project will help students become familiar with the test format by learning how to read documents and graphics and take away the “fear of the unknown.” |
