African American Scientists Internet Activity Project Information This is a research activity that will be used as a basis for a research based writing project the students will participate in with an African-American Studies class at the High School. Each student will visit a variety of sites, and use classroom and library resources, to gather information about an African-American Inventor and/or Scientist.  They will use graphic organizers in the note taking process, create storyboards, and produce a short slide show in Power Point to share the information they have learned.

For the NYS Social Studies Exam		 Internet Activity Project Information

This project was developed to assist 5th graders learn about the Fifth Grade Social Studies test given in November. To prepare for this test, the children will need to extract needed information; by finding a particular piece of information in a document, describing the main idea or purpose of a passage or picture, finding supporting details, and drawing a conclusion.  Students will also have to know how to read and understand test questions, and how to write clearly. This collaborative project will help students become familiar with the test format by learning how to read documents and graphics and take away the “fear of the unknown.” 
Abraham Lincoln PowerPoint Project Information This is a Power Point Presentation tells the story of Abraham Lincoln. The program is set up so students can read along while the story is told.  The activities include music, times lines, art, maps, and reading.  Social Studies is integrated with Art, Music and English for these lessons.
Immigration: Are We There Yet? Internet Activity Project Information This project will give students an opportunity to use primary documents to practice for the fifth grade DBQ’s.  Questions are linked to sites guiding the students to information that will help them find the answers.
Red, White, and Blue - I Love You! Internet Activity Project Information

The purpose of this project is to give facts about the United States flag. Math and Language Arts are also incorporated.  This activity will follow a unit previously completed during Social Studies class about the flag.  The estimated time it will take the average third grader is two hours total time to complete all of the activities.
O Canada! PowerPoint Project Information This is an interdisciplinary unit about Canada.  This PowerPoint presentation is an introduction to the country of Canada. The components include history, geography, economy, and culture.
3rd Grade DBQ Internet Activity Project Information In this activity students will be viewing and interpreting some cartoons.  Students will write a response and answer questions based on the cartoon they write.
Pre Civil War-North & South Internet Activity Project Information This project provides students with background information about the Pre-Civil War North and South.  The focus is on the time period between the 1790’s and the 1860’s.  Students  read the questions presented to them and then perform research using the designated links provided.  The students will use information found in their answers to write the essay for the "Big Question". 
American Treasure Hunt Internet Activity Project Information This treasure hunt will be used as a tool to develop an understanding of the general principles of the United States Government and its origin. 
Spies of the American Revolution Internet Activity Project Information This project is a scavenger hunt relating to famous spies of the American Revolutionary War. Students will become familiar with various spies, how they contributed to the war effort, and various methods they used in their trade.
Colonial Era PowerPoint Project Information This Project is an introduction to the early Colonial days in America. Students will view a classroom presentation of this project and participate in classroom discussions and activities.
Careers Internet Activity Project Information This is an Internet activity based on Career Day. There are a variety of activities associated with this project along with  interactive links to web sites with the goal of exploration and research into a wide variety of careers. 
Diggin' for NY State Facts Internet Activity Project Information This Treasure Hunt was designed to bring students on a journey to discover some of NY State’s historical Treasures.
DaVinci PowerPoint Project Information This Power Point Presentation is a simple biography about Leonardo DaVinci, his life and his contributions.  It serves as an example of a simple project for students and is an alternate way for students to present information.   
New York Government PowerPoint Project Information This is a Power Point Presentation about New York State Government and the three branches.  It includes how a bill becomes a law and photos of some of the government buildings in Albany. Activities ideas include writing to your local senator and reading biographies on some of the Governors. 
African Animals PowerPoint Project Information This project gives the children information on six different African animals. They will learn about the animals’ physical appearance, habitat, diet, young, and predators. They will be responsible for answering two questions about each animal, as well as trying five bonus questions. They will then be expected to choose a different African animal to research.
Madame CJ Walker PowerPoint Project Information This Power Point Presentation is a simple biography about Madame C.J. Walker, her life and contributions.  She was the first self-made African American millionaire. 
Albany Project PowerPoint Project Information This Power Point slide presentation showcases various historical sites in Albany.  It provides fourth and fifth grade students an opportunity to explore these sites by planning a tour and calculating the distance traveled. Students are also asked to write a persuasive letter to a family member encouraging them to take a tour of Albany with them. It can be used with individuals, partners, in a small group setting as well as large group presentation.
Character Education PowerPoint Project Information This PowerPoint project discusses with students the importance of character education by recognizing the five pillars of character development.
Document Based Questions PowerPoint Project Information This Power Point slide presentation introduces Timelines for grades K – 1, Communities for grades 2-3, and Immigration for grades 4 – 5.  It provides students at each level an opportunity to explore age appropriate social studies curriculum through language arts activities.
