Introduction:

This Treasure Hunt about tides examines the causes of ocean tides and the different types of tides that occur.  The hunt is meant to be a fun way for students to learn more about this topic than is normally covered in their science class.

Learners:

The topic of tides comes up in the fourth grade science curriculum.  This Treasure Hunt was designed with fourth grade in mind, but could be used in Grades 4-8.  The reading level on some of the web pages will be challenging to many 4th graders.

Process:

Students will work individually in the computer lab or in pairs in the classroom.  Each student will be given an answer sheet or instructed to print one.  Students will go on the Internet, using a shortcut or bookmark to go directly to the Treasure Hunt web site.  Students will then click on each link provided to find the answer to each question.  Answers will be recorded in complete sentences on the answer sheets.  When the class has completed the Treasure Hunt, answers will be discussed as a class.  The answer sheets will then be collected.
