The Hudson River
The Hudson River was created tens of thousands of years ago by a receding glacier.  In 1609, the Dutch explorer Henry Hudson, aboard his ship Half Moon, traveled north up the river as far as the Albany area, bringing a European influence to the Native Americans already present.  Ever since, The Hudson River has had a major influence on the history and politics of New York State and the United States as a whole.
