Concepts and themes: identity, change, culture, places, regions, needs, wants, interdependence, citizenship, civic life, and government

Students will be able to:

    1. Develop an awareness of self including physical self, needs, wants,
    2. abilities, likes, dislikes, similarities and differences.

    3. Explore values, ideas, customs, and traditions of other cultures in relation

to themselves.

    1. Identify how people change over time.
    2. Recognize how their families are alike and different than others’.
    3. State the definition of a school and school community.
    4. Find their neighborhood on a map and identify the different people that live in their neighborhood.
    5. See how places can be located on a map and globe, including land and water masses.
    6. Investigate how people are interdependent in a family, school and neighborhood.
    7. Be aware of national symbols of citizenship including holidays, and the flag of the United Sates of America.
    8. Understand that people have rights, responsibilities, and roles of citizenship.
    9. Discover the affects of rules and laws and the reasons they are made and changed.
