The Schenectady Patriots compete as a Class AA school in Section II of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association.  The Schenectady City School District believes that participation in athletics contributes to a well-rounded education, support students' classroom success and gives them skills and experiences that help them succeed in school and beyond.

Excellence in Leadership    Leadership   Leadership 2

Maazin Ahmed and Abby Dufort, SHS seniors, have received the Suburban Scholastic Council Interscholastic Sports 2018 “Excellence in Leadership” award.  They were among 31 student-athletes recognized for outstanding leadership. 

At the annual awards banquet Steve Boynton, Athletic Director, spoke about Maazin, Abby and their accomplishments:

Maazin Ahmed is one of the nicest students at Schenectady High School and one of the best track athletes to come out of Schenectady.  This says a lot about Maazin since some of our former students have gone on to compete in the Olympics.  Some highlights include:

  • 2017 chosen as Section 2 representative for sportsmanship in Cross Country
  • 2018 chosen as Section 2 representative for sportsmanship in Indoor Track
  • 4 time Suburban Council champion
  • 5 time Section 2 champion
  • 4 time state meet qualifier
  • Section 2 Class A Cross Country champion
  • State Champion 1600 meter
  • Named the Times Union Indoor Track Athlete of the Year

Maazin, a member of the National Honor Society, will graduate 9th, with a GPA of 3.8 while earning an International Baccalaureate Academic certificate.  He received a scholarship to Georgetown University where he will attend this fall.   


Abby Dufort is a true student athletic leader most particularly in the sport of girl’s lacrosse.  She is a dynamic individual who leads by work ethic and attitude.  Abby has been a varsity starter since 9th grade and three year team captain.  Some highlights include:

  • 2017 Coaches Award
  • 2017 Suburban Council all-star team
  • 2018 MVP Award
  • 2018 Unsung Hero Sportsmanship Award

Abby will graduate with an International Baccalaureate Academic certificate.  She received a scholarship to Dominican College where she will attend this fall.
