Session: Amplifying Student Voice and Choice in the Classroom Using Educational Technology
Presenters: Richard DeCarr, Michael Sheridan
Description:
This session will emphasize the importance of encouraging student voice and choice in the classroom. Student voices have
power. Establishing a classroom culture that values student voice and recognizes different learning styles can help teachers
tailor an instructional approach to engage students and meet their learning needs.
Participants will learn about a variety of technological tools that can be used with existing district hardware and
infrastructure. The development of "choice boards" allows for individualized, often performance-based assessments that
allow for a variety of student learning styles. Video response websites, such as Flipgrid, allow for all students' voices to be
heard, increasing engagement. In addition, it increases student time on task, maximizing student-centered instruction.
