Dear Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers,

I hope that you had a great holiday recess and that the new year is off to a fantastic start.   As you may have heard in the news, New York State is providing COVID-19 test kits to all schools so students who are symptomatic can easily test at home.  We are pleased to share that we received a supply of kits from Capital Region BOCES today.  Since we did not receive our full allocation, we are not able to send a kit home with every student but are offering kits as per below.  We do expect to receive additional kits soon which will be kept in our school health offices and available for use.

The tests are being provided as a resource to schools and families to monitor the spread of COVID-19 within our community so that we can keep our schools open for in-person instruction.

Our plan for distribution is as follows:

ELEMENTARY STUDENTS: Each elementary school student will be bringing home a test kit on Tuesday, January 4.  If you do not wish to receive a test kit for your child, please opt-out by mid-day Tuesday by sending a note, calling, emailing, or letting us know through Let’s Talk.  Simply tell us that you choose to opt out from receiving a test kit at this time.

SECONDARY STUDENTS (GRADES 6-12):  Test kits for students in grades 6-12 will be available for pick-up on Wednesday, January 5 from 4- 6 p.m. in the bus loop in front of Mont Pleasant Middle School, located at 1121 Forest Rd.   Drive up to pick up your kit.

WHO SHOULD BE TESTED?

Any child who has a symptom of COVID-19 should be tested at home, or at a clinic, doctor’s office or testing site.

WHAT TO DO IF YOUR CHILD’S TEST IS POSITIVE

Any positive test result from an at-home test should be reported to Schenectady County Public Health Services by going to the website:  https://www.schenectadycounty.com/covid19/selfreporting   You should also contact your school nurse.

Anyone with a positive test result should also isolate and following instructions provided by Schenectady County Public Health https://www.schenectadycounty.com/COVID19

Thank you for your continued partnership as we are committed to keeping our schools healthy, safe, and open.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s principal.  Happy new year!

Sincerely,

Anibal Soler, Jr.

Superintendent of Schools
