2021 NYS Testing: Virtual Students

NYS Testing of Virtual Students

New York State assessments in English, math and science cannot be administered remotely.  All New York State assessments are school-based and must be done in-person.   As such, students who are attending school all remotely/virtually, are not required to take the assessments.  As a parent or guardian of a virtual student, you can choose for your child to participate.  Your child would be required to take the assessments in-person, on-site. If you would like your child to participate in the grades 3-8 testing, please complete this very brief online form by April 19, 2021.

Changes in 2021
There are usually two sessions of tests administered.  This year, only Session 1 (reduced in length) will be administered. Session 2 will not be administered.

Remote Learner Testing Schedule
The assessments will be administered (in-person) to remote students opting to participate within the following testing windows:

NYS ELA Test:  April 26 - April 29
NYS Math Test:  May 10 - May 13
NYS Science Test (Grades 4 and 8 only):  June 7-June 9

Each school will select the dates for testing within the window provided.  Your child's principal will provide you with your school's specific test date for each assessment.

If you have any questions, please contact your school principal.

Note:  The New York State Department of Education has submitted a testing waiver.  The first waiver request has been denied.  NYSED is awaiting response to a second request.  Unless the waiver is approved, schools are required to administer the English, math and science exams (as outlined above).
