Athletic Hall of Fame & Reunion Dinner



This year’s Schenectady City School District Athletic Hall of Fame & Reunion Dinner, scheduled for September 14, has been rescheduled due to ongoing concerns associated the COVID-19 pandemic.

The rescheduled dinner date is Monday, September 13, 2021, at the Glen Sanders Mansion.

This year’s inductees will be honored at the 2021 dinner.  They are Ed Alger (a standout runner at Mont Pleasant HS; he was the 1952 State mile champion; 2-time Sectional cross-country champion and 2-time Sectional mile champion; had a very successful running career at Syracuse U.), Al Burnham (standout football player on the undefeated 1953 & 1954 Nott Terrace HS football teams; an outstanding baseball player at NTHS; 1955 Junior Chamber of Commerce Senior Athlete of the Year; played Minor League Baseball in the Dodgers organization;) and Joe Zelezniak (outstanding 3-sport athlete at Mont Pleasant HS; 1969 & 1970 State shot put champion; still holds the official Section II shot put record; 1969 Eastern States shot put & discus champion; won the Eddy Meet shot put twice and discus once; very successful career after high school; once ranked as the #1 shot putter in the Eastern U.S.; finished 9th in the 1981 “World’s Strongest Man” competition).

“Legacy Tribute” will honor the undefeated 1969-70 Linton HS basketball team.  This team was ranked #1 in New York. Only one victory was by less than ten points.  The team was coached by Hall of Famer Walt Przybylo and was led by All-American center Sidney Edwards.  Edwards, also a member of the Athletic Hall of Fame, went on to play at the U. of Houston and with the Harlem Globetrotters.  Other starters were Chuck Abba, Bill Suprunowicz, Charlie Mack and Dave Modest.
