What's New with Mrs. Olekoski's English Class

T
hird quarter begins our adventure through the Elizabethan Era with a focus on Shakespeare’s contributions to theater, literature and language. All of my 9th grade sections are studying Julius Caesar and my 10th grade section is studying Othello. The 9th graders did an Internet research project on the life and times of Shakespeare using wireless laptops within the classroom.

As the majority of assignments will be taking place in the classroom, students will be doing an outside reading project for third quarter. Students will choose one book to read outside of class and they will have to complete a project pertaining to the book they chose. Vocabulary study will commence after February break.

On February 13th, my 10th grade section will start their research papers. This year they will research a topic linked to Math, Science or Technology. Students will be able to choose something they are interested in to research. There are already some great topics, such as the impact of video games on student violence. Allowing students to choose a topic will make this project personal. Ask your 10th grader what they chose! Projects will be due March 3rd.

                                                                                                                Thanks,

                                                                                                                Mrs. Olekoski
