Ron Wise, LHS 1990
Makes Section II History

Ron Wise, a 1990 graduate of Linton High School, made history recently when he was named the next head football coach at Cairo-Durham High School.  With his appointment, Wise is the first African American varsity head football coach in Section II history.

Wise played on Linton’s junior varsity team in 1988-89 and then on the varsity team the following year.   He coached modified and freshmen teams at Bishop Gibbon High School and Schenectady High School and was assistant coach at Hudson Valley Community College.

“I am very excited to head up the football program at Cairo-Durham,” said Wise.  “The discipline and hard work I learned as a student athlete in Schenectady has shaped me into the coach I am today.”

Wise graduated from Hudson Valley Community College and SUNY Albany where he majored in Africana Studies and double minored in education and literature.  Since then, he has also published four books.

He is married to Nicole Wise, a third grade teacher at Franklin Delano Roosevelt Elementary School in Schenectady.
