Casper Wells, Promoted to AA in June
Name Player of the Month in August

 

Casper Wells, a 2002 graduate of Schenectady High School, has been named Eastern League Player of the month of August.  Wells is a centerfielder for the Erie SeaWolves, the AA Team of the Detroit Tigers.  He was promoted to the AA Team in early June from the Class A West Michigan Whitecaps, where he had outstanding numbers and was selected as a Midwest League midseason All-Star.  Following the season, Wells will be playing in the Hawaiian Winter Baseball League.

During the month of August, Wells batted .345 and went 38-100 with 10 doubles, four triples, 10 homes runs, 27 RBIs, 34 run scores, 11 walks, two stolen bases, .430 on-base percentage and a .782 slugging percentage in 28 games.

He also reached base in each of the 28 games, recording 11 multiple hit games and had two nine-game hitting streaks. 

Wells led the the league in several offensive categories during the month including home runs, RBIs, runs scored, slugging percentage and total bases with 86.


Wells, who was also the Bank of America Eastern League Player of the Week for the week ending August 11th, was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 14th round of the 2005 draft out of Towson University, where he was named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year after hitting .362 with 18 homers and 66 RBI.
