Congratulations
to Brian Janiszewski, salutatorian of the
Schenectady High School Class of 2009, who was recently admitted to the
University at Albany
College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering
undergraduate
degree program in Nanoscale Science. Janiszewski will be a member of
the first class of the comprehensive undergraduate program, which was
just launched in June
2009.
CNSE is the world's first
college to offer a comprehensive baccalaureate program in Nanoscale
Science, offering groundbreaking educational and research curriculum
that will prepare students for growing scientific opportunities in the
nanotechnology-enabled careers of the 21st century.
Nanotechnology is the science of managing
and manipulating matter at the atomic level. “Nano” refers to nanometer,
or one billionth of a meter, the length scale used to depict atomic
dimensions.
Admittance to the program
requires documented scholarly excellence, high SAT and cumulative GPA
scores and academic interest in nanoscale science. The average
admission scores for the 2010 Spring Semester were 1326 on the SAT and
3.85 out of 4.0 G.P.A
The degree is intended for students who plan to engage in scientific,
technical, or professional careers in the emerging nanotechnology fields
of the 21st century, including nanoelectronics, green energy,
infotronics, telecommunications, nanoeconomics, bioinformatics,
biotechnology and environmental sciences or pursue more advanced studies
in fields such as nanoscale.
Janiszewski, who was a member of Schenectady High
School’s Edison School of Math Science and Technology, earned an
International
Baccalaureate Diploma. He received a scholarship for academic
excellence and earned numerous awards in high school.
