Zoller Takes 2nd Place in Healthy Video Contest
A group from Zoller Elementary School recently took second place
and a cash prize of $1,500 in the "Healthy Changes Everything"
video contest hosted by Blue Shield of NY. More than 30
Zoller students, four teachers and the Schenectady High School
Patriot Film Group collaborated to produce the entry.

"Healthy
Changes Everything," the largest school-to-school contest in the
capital region, called for students to create a video with
students and school staff performing healthy activities.
Brian Melanson,
physical education teacher at Zoller, said that he learned about
the contest and immediately thought about Eric Connolly and the
TV and Film Group at Schenectady High School.
Melanson had
worked on other occasions with Connolly, who is a teacher and
manager of SCS-TV, a school run television station housed at the
high school. "I always admired Mr. Connolly's and his
students work," said Melanson. "When I saw this contest, I
knew he and his students could help us put together a product
worthy of a big prize."
The group held
a couple of pre-shoot meetings and came up with a concept for
the video. They then selected a day to shoot the video
which lasted until about 6 p.m.
Melanson said
the project was a great experience for the students as they
learned about what goes into making a movie or a television
show. "A lot of students did not realize that it can take
three hours to shoot a 90-second video," he said.
"The kids are
very proud of their work," said Melanson. "They worked
very hard for this."
The cash prize
will be used for the Zoller Elementary School physical education
program.
