January Was A
Busy Month At Yates!
The month of
January at Yates was highlighted by entertaining and
educational visits by an unusual variety of presenters.
On
January 20th, Beth Bidwell, Executive Director of
the Wildlife Institute of Eastern NY, brought an interesting
variety of
local wildlife
to the Yates 3-4-5-6th grades. Her presentation
included a milk snake, a snapping turtle and a falcon. Each
unique animal was
brought “up
close and personal” to the classes, and they learned a
number of facts about each animal through Beth’s lively and
professional lectures.
The following
week, The Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company along with
storyteller Marni Gillard performed “Celtic Footprints”.
Ms. Gillard, a
local
storyteller, narrated 4 different Celtic folktales as the
Sinopoli dancers interpreted the stories through modern
dance.
President
Quintin Bullock of SCCC visited with the Yates 6th
graders, discussing the importance of early education and
how to start
A successful
path to college.
