Yates second graders welcome congressman, celebrate Earth

The second grade students at Yates Magnet School welcomed Congressman Paul Tonko.

Tonko's visit came on the heels of a month full of activities that celebrated the Earth.  Students in Deborah Carey's class shared the research they did on endangered animal species, the   portraits of their animals that they painted and poetry that they wrote. Both Jennifer Rockinger's and  Alita O'Malley's classes created art using recycled materials. Rockinger's class also recited a poem.

Tonko, accompanied by his staff assistant Dylan Carey (SHS class of 2006), spoke with the children about ways they could help make the Earth a cleaner and safer place to live.  He encouraged them to keep learning about how they can make a difference.

Tonko was also treated to a song, led by Annalisa Mertzis, entitled All Living Things
