Yates families learn about
emergency awareness & prevention at Safety Night

On Tuesday October 6, 2009, the Yates Arts in Education Magnet School Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) Team hosted a "Safety Night" to help promote fire and emergency awareness and prevention.

The students and families of Yates Magnet School enjoyed touring a Schenectady City Fire Truck and learning to use the water hose. Representatives from the Schenectady Police Department and New York State Troopers also gave tours of their vehicles and provided wonderful information and resources for the families. The Schenectady Sheriff's K-9 Unit  brought along three of their furry friends for a very exciting demonstration. Everyone who attended enjoyed a variety of activities, informational booths, face painting, and a delicious bake sale.

Also, in honor of National Fire Prevention Week the kindergarten and first grade students at Yates enjoyed individual classroom visits from Fireman Jim. Each year, the week surrounding the date of October 9th is celebrated as National Fire Prevention Week. The date commemorates the famous “Great Chicago Fire” of 1871.

A Special Thank You To:
