Students Thank Junior League for Backpacks & Supplies
The students at
Yates Magnet School said thank you Monday at a morning assembly
to the Junior League of Schenectady for the book bag full of
school supplies they each received the first week of school.
“Did you notice
that your parents didn’t have to buy you many things for school
this year,” asked Valarie Scott, principal of Yates. Students
named many items they didn’t have to purchase but will need this
school year such as crayons, folders, spiral notebooks and a
backpack.
 The Junior League’s project, Operation-Back-to-School
furnished each student at Yates with these items and more. Each
student received a new backpack loaded with grade-appropriate
items to get the school year started right.
The students
presented Patricia Rowledge and Michelle Gabriel from the Junior League with
hand-made, colorful cards that expressed their gratitude.
“You’re welcome,”
said Rowledge. “Our goal is that you use your pencils and paper
and try hard in school.”
