rooms at a cost of $140,000 on
Salina St.
Origin of School Name
........
Yates is named in honor of
Joseph C. Yates (1768 - 1837)
lawyer, one of the founders of
Union College, Schenectady's
first mayor, a New York State
Senator, a justice of the New
York State Supreme Court and the
seventh Governor of New York
State.

Yates was selected as a
Magnet School of Excellence by
Magnet Schools of America in
2002.

Yates Today
........
Yates offers students study
through a special emphasis on
the visual, literary and
performing arts. Yates students
learn to work as curators of the
school gallery, write and
publish their own books, work
with professional
artists-in-residence and put on
full-scale theatrical
productions. The extended day
program provides additional
studio experience with more
in-depth arts activities and
performance opportunities.
