Principal dresses up like dog, sings “Who Let the Dogs Out”
Performance part of reading incentive program

Each year students at Yates Arts-In-Education Magnet School take part in “Book-It”, a national reading program that offers incentives and praise for reading accomplishments. And each year the grade level that reads for the most minutes gets a fantastic reward – they get to choose what their principal, Valarie Scott, will do during a school assembly.

Last year Scott took a pie in the face. This year the kindergarten classes, who read for a combined total of 132,195 minutes this year, got to make the decision. On Monday, May 14, Scott and two other teachers wore dog costumes and performed the song “Who Let the Dogs Out.”

“This is a way for us to promote reading and get the kids excited about reading, and at the same time have some fun,” Scott said.

The costumes were provided by The Costumer.
