Yates students come in first at Dance Crazy Competition

On Saturday, May 5, more than 300 students, teachers and family members gathered in the Yates Arts-In-Education Magnet School gymnasium to watch the finals of the first ever Dance Crazy Competition.

Six schools participated in the "dance off", each hoping to bring home the trophy. Each school team consisted of 6 couples, each couple specializing in a ballroom dance, including tango, foxtrot, cha-cha, jitterbug and rhumba. One couple had to learn all six and be ready to perform a dance chosen by the judges.

After the first four teams were eliminated, it came down to the Yates dancers against Albany's School of the Humanities team. In the end, the judges awarded the first prize to Yates, commenting on their skills, attitude and team effort.

The Yates community would like to congratulate their fellow teams from ML King Magnet, Albany School of the Humanities, Ichabod Crane, P.B.Coeymans and A.W. Becker for their wonderful sportsmanship and the amazing talent that they shared.
