"Which country will be the first to send people to the moon?" Many people asked this question during the 1960’s. Americans wanted to be the first to reach the moon.

Students will learn about the first manned flight to the moon, the meaning of the

"space race" during the late 1950’s, and the benefits of space exploration today.

 

Students should be familiar with basic terminology associated with space exploration and have a general understanding of related concepts. This Treasure Hunt was designed to use as an enrichment activity for modified 8th grade Social Studies for Sp. Ed. Students.

Contents coincide with chapter work in Steck-Vaughn, America’s Story, Book II. Students will be able to answer chapter questions and create a journal entry regarding space travel. Students will need access to computer and an email account

Standard 2 World History

Students will use a variety of intellectual skills to demonstrate their understanding of major ideas, eras, themes, developments, and turning points in world history and examine the broad sweep of history from a variety of perspectives.

Standard 5 – Technology

Students will apply technological knowledge and skills to design, construct, use, and evaluate products and systems to satisfy human and environmental needs.
