Supplemental Education[PDF logo] Service Providers for Schenectady City School District

SES Parent Application
To receive an SES application please call Catherine Canavan at 881-2506

Schenectady City Schools are dedicated to providing a quality education to all students.  As part of our commitment, I want to tell you about extra school support called Supplemental Education Services
(SES).

Your child is eligible for SES because he or she attends a Title 1 School in Need of Improvement in ELA and/or Mathematics and is eligible for free or reduced lunch.  These services are free for your child. We expect to provide help/tutoring to all eligible students who ask for it.  If there are more students than funding, students with the greatest academic need will have first priority.

If your child is having difficulty in English-Language Arts (ELA), reading and/or mathematics, then SES will provide the help/tutoring that your child needs to be successful.  Attached are the providers that we have worked with in the past who will offer help/tutoring after school and on weekends for all students including students with disabilities and limited English proficiency.  Services will take place in your home, neighborhood locations or through the Internet. You may also access additional providers at http://www.emsc.nysed.gov/nclb/ses/ApprovedProviders/home.   You will decide on a location with the provider.

This packet explains what you, as a parent, must do to make sure your child gets these free services.  Included in the packet are the following:

  • SES Parent Program Selection form with your child’s information,

  • a calendar of important dates,

  • instructions for completing the selection form and

  • a directory of companies (providers).

If you decide you want your child to receive SES, please call the Schenectady City School District SES office at 881-2506 if you have any questions.  I would encourage you to contact your child’s teachers, guidance counselor or other school personnel for input.

After you have decided upon a provider, send your application to Catherine Canavan, District Offices at Keane Annex, 1252 Albany St., Schenectady, NY  12304 by December 2, 2011.  In December 2011, the company will contact you to arrange the specific date, time and location for services to begin.  If you have not heard from the company by January 3, 2012, please call the school district's SES Office at 881-2506.

Together, we can provide the support your child needs for success.
