Michael Anthony Williams works on
writing for "Moments of Choice" with SHS Students
Michael
Anthony Williams, a member of the Virginia Tech theatre faculty,
professional actor in films and on stage and producer, offers a
program to public school students called ImprovAffect.
During the week of
December 13, Williams spent five days at the John Sayles School
of Fine Arts at Schenectady High School where he worked with a
team of students on improving their academics, attendance
and behavior.
The Schenectady
High School program, "Moments of Choice," is a writing workshop
designed to engage students who are at at-risk, help them
embrace personal responsibility for the decisions they make and
in turn affect opportunities in the near future. The
collaboration also includes school and district staff, students
and local artists.
This
was Williams second visit to Schenectady High School. He also
spent time at the school in May when he met three
different classes. Theatre teacher Bill Ziskin said he made a
"powerful impression" on the students. He is scheduled to return
to the district for another residency in the spring.
