Tips for Parents
To Top
The attitude
and environment established by the parents/guardian at home are
critical to a student's success in school. Cooperation
between parents and their children, and parents and the school
is essential in developing sound study habits.
- Meet
and keep in contact with the teachers of your child.
Feel free to e-mail (last name first
initial@schenectady.k12.ny.us - for example:
doej@schenectady.k12.ny.us) or call
the school to talk with a teacher, counselor, or an
administrator on a regular basis.
- Take time to
listen to your child; encourage them, and show an interest in
their school work.
- Provide a
place in the home where school work may be done and where
school materials can be kept.
- Eliminate
distractions, such as TV, video, music and noisy brothers and
sisters.
- Encourage
your child to get materials ready for school the night before.
This can save confusion and temper-flare ups in the morning
and allow the student to be prepared and face the day with a
positive attitude.
- Do whatever
you can to start your child's day off on a positive note.
- Enforce
reasonable hours for sleep and good eating habits.
- Get to know
your child's friends and the extra school activities in which
they are involved.
- Encourage
your student to write all assignments and important dates,
deadlines, and after school meetings with teachers in their
planner/agenda. Check the agenda regularly to ensure
that your student is keeping up with their work.
- All
students MUST have a Schenectady City School District issued
lock for each locker. Under NO circumstances will
students be allowed to share lockers.
