Visit College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering
Schenectady
High School juniors in the Edison School of Math, Science and
Technology had the opportunity to tour the College Of Nanoscale
Science and Engineering (CNSE) campus of the University of
Albany for Nano Career Day recently.
CNSE at Albany
is the first college in the world dedicated to research,
development, education, and deployment in the emerging
disciplines of nanoscience, nanoengineering, nanobioscience, and
nonoeconomics. With more than $6.5 billion in public and
private investments, CNSE's Albany NanoTech Complex has
attracted more than 250 global corporate partners. It is
the most advanced research complex at any university in the
world.
"When
you step onto the Nanotech campus, it feels like a place where
only PhD scientists can work, right?" noted Jeanne Myers, MST
guidance counselor. "Well, this is not the case."
Myers pointed
out that during the tour one of the guides explained that there
are a wide range of job opportunities with varying degrees of
education required, from a high school diploma through the
doctorate level. The guide indicated that it all depends
on how much freedom you want within your job. "Students
should speak to their counselors to see how Nanotech could fit
into their future plans," said Myers.
With the CNSE
Campus in Albany and the Global Foundries Chip Fab Plant in
Malta just a short drive or bike ride away, the probability of
high paying jobs in this area are exponentially increasing.
