MST 10th
graders give time, energy to the community
Susie
Walsh's 10th graders recently wrapped up an extensive project in
which they gave their time and energy to help a local charity,
the Schenectady City Mission.
Early in the
school year, Walsh required her students to each write a
proposal recommending a
charity
that the classes would support for the entire quarter.
Jerry Rosen, principal of the Edison School of Math Science,
Technology and Invention selected Megan Thomas' proposal to help
the City Mission. Rosen said it was his choice because it is a
local charity and he was confident that the students and school
community could come together to support their programs.
The students
were proud to donate the more than 200 new and gently used
coats, hats and mittens that they had been collecting since
September.
On December 16,
eight students volunteered their time at the City Missions' Toy
Store where they served refreshments, wrapped gifts and kept the
tables stocked with toys.
"It was a great
project and hopefully the students feel good about helping the
community that they live in," said Walsh.
