Students
showcase talents at Career Center's International Night
If
you enjoy trying different culinary dishes and learning about a
variety of cultures, The Career Center at Steinmetz was the
place to be on April 21. The school's Parent Partnership
Team hosted International Night which featured the culinary
delights of six continents, all prepared by the culinary
students, as well as an array of projects and presentations.
To
prepare for the event and showcase of student talent, the
culinary students spent time learning about various cuisines
from around the world. Each student selected a
country which would become the focus of his or her project.
They researched their countries and were responsible for
preparing reports on each country with two recipes.
The students
also learned about the various cultures in many of their
classes. For example, in math, they learned about the
exchange rates. In Global Studies, they researched the
history and culture.
Everyone had a
hand in the event. Students completed artwork and poster
boards and those in the Office Management program worked on a
PowerPoint presentation. Their works were on display
throughout International Night. Students in the Property
Management program made small flag holders which served as
centerpieces on each of the tables.
Jyoti
Nayak, a teacher at The Career Center, gave henna tattoos.
A recipe book,
made by the students in the Office Management program, was also
available for a small donation.
The Media Arts
students put their talents to work by taking photos of the
event.

The culinary
dishes were prepared by Laura Macey, teacher of culinary arts
at The Career Center, and the following students:
