Center for Improving Early Reading
Achievement
CIERA's mission is
to improve the reading achievement of America's children by
generating and disseminating theoretical, empirical, and
practical solutions to persistent problems in the learning and
teaching of beginning reading.
National Council of Teachers of English
The National
Council of Teachers of English, the world's largest
subject-matter educational association, is devoted to improving
the teaching of English and the language arts at all levels of
education.
National Reading Conference
The National
Reading Conference is a professional organization composed of
individuals who share an interest in research and dissemination
of information on literacy. NRC sponsors a conference each year
during the first week in December.
International Reading Association
The International
Reading Association seeks to promote high levels of literacy for
all by improving the quality of reading instruction through
studying the reading process and teaching techniques; serving as
a clearinghouse for the dissemination of reading research
through conferences, journals, and other publications; and
actively encouraging the lifetime reading habit.
National Institute for Literacy (LINCS)
LINCS is the
literacy community's gateway to the world of adult education and
literacy resources on the Internet. The goal of LINCS is to
bring adult literacy-related resources and expertise to a single
point of access for users throughout the world.
New York State Education Department
The New York State
Education Department web site has numerous resources for
teachers and prospective teachers in New York State. The site
includes certification requirements, state assessments, and
district information.
New York State Reading Association
The New York State
Reading Association is an affiliate of the International Reading
Association comprised of 43 local reading councils having a
total membership of over 6,500 educators from across New York
State. The organization includes classroom teachers, reading
specialists, parents, college educators, and researchers. Each
November, members from across the state come together at the
annual conference. NYSRA has three publications, acts as an
advocate for literacy issues, and supports various committees
that deal with a variety of issues.
