American Educational Research Association
AERA is the
most prominent international professional organization with the
goal of scholarly inquiry, dissemination and practical
application of research results. The site is completely
searchable, with links to recent research literature, upcoming
events, workshops, forums and institutes. The Web/online
resources include other websites, list servs, databases and
other online resources for the educational researcher.
Disciplines include: education, psychology, statistics,
sociology, history, economics, philosophy, anthropology and
political science.

A collection of
more than 3000 current resources on a variety of educational
issues including: Counseling, Educational Management,
Educational Technology, ERIC Clearinghouse, Evaluation, Family
Life, General Education (motivation, learning theories, etc.)
Teaching (Classroom Management, Planning, etc) and Reference.
The site includes model Lesson Plans, an interactive search
capacity, mailing lists and free registration for Ask ERIC
Newsletter. This site allows you to enter any one of the
thousands of links available, and to search, chat, or link to
other sites addressing the same topic or issue. If you only go
to one site to find available research, this would be a good
choice!
Association for Supervision and Curriculum
Development
ASCD focuses on
trends and issues affecting pre-kindergarten through higher
education. There are full-text articles from Educational
Leadership on-line. Click on "Educational Topics" in the
horizontal menu par to find articles and publications on topics
from character education to school violence. There is a
book-length "Lexicon of Learning" that covers educational
terminology in easily understood language.

Provides local

Children's Defense Fund
The mission of
the Children's Defense Fund is to Leave No Child Left Behind
and to ensure every child a Healthy Start, a Head Start, a
Fair Start, a Safe Start, and a Moral Start in life and
successful passage to adulthood with the help of caring
families and communities. Contains National and State Data as
well as Key Facts.
Curriculum for K-12 Students
This site is
maintained by the NERIC, and includes MANY links to elementary,
secondary and administrative sites addressing each area of the
curriculum, K-12.
3D Data-Driven Decision Making
This is an
outstanding site for up-to-date, unbiased information for
educators on collecting, understanding and using data
effectively in elementary and secondary education form COSN
(Consortium for School Networking). It also provides a
framework for sharing knowledge amount educators. There are
one-click links to publications, best practices and other
resources, including a free on-line self assessment to help your
district assess it's readiness to use data-driven decision
models to improve the quality of teaching and learning.
Membership is free, and registering on-line provides you with
new information and best practice updates directly to your
e-mail address.

Educational Research Network
Unlike large
search engines like Google, this site saves you time because
when you do a search on a topic, all of the returned items are
relevant! Through ERN you can access a wealth of information
from print and electronic sources and share educational
resources, creative ideas and technical expertise. It contains
searchable archives, selected complete text articles on selected
topics in education, a glossary of terms related to measurement,
assessment and child development, a free e-letter, and links to
other Web sites. The research is up-to-date and includes
management, psychology, testing, child development and cognitive
science. Everything is free, but you may choose an annual
subscription to receive the 8-times/year "Educational Research
Newsletter" the cost of which varies by the size of the school
district.
Educational Research Service
This nonprofit
organization serves the research and information needs of
educators and the public. There is a free for "Premier
Services," however, many topical articles that translate
research to classroom practices are available without costs.
You can search by topic or scan available resources.
Education Commission of the States
This is an
essential site to find out what other states are doing in K-12
education. It is a clearinghouse and supplies information on
state policy and activities involving education, as well as
research and reports on particular issues. In contains e-Clips
(a daily roundup of top national educational news), e-Connection
(a weekly bulletin highlighting state policy trends, news
reports, useful web sites and ECS news) and Governance Notes,
which looks at what is happening in educational governance.
Education Week
Educational
week is a weekly newspaper published by Editorial Projects in
Education Inc. which can be read online. Also online, is their
companion publication, Teacher Magazine, which links to current
education news and an archive of older news stories. It
includes a glossary of education terms, special reports and a
hot topics section.
Education World
Comprehensive
source of curriculum materials with more than a half-million
resources. The site includes lesson plans, teaching units,
curriculum guides, special features tied to the calendar, school
reports, site reviews, professional articles and related
resources.
Effective Schools League, Online Resource
A one-year
membership to this site costs $200, with community memberships
(6 passwords) available at $750. It contains more than 1,100
research studies on effective school improvement, with 72
studies added annually. You can search by topic (e.g. effective
instruction), title, author, or keyword (e.g. professional
development). It also has Tools for Staff Training (the
Effective Schools Framework, Correlates and Leading Indicators
of Learning) as well as providing opportunities to network and
dialog with colleagues in the US and Canada.
Eisenhower National Clearinghouse Headline
News
This site has
direct links to education, math, and science-related articles
from newspapers and other sources around the nation. You can
sign up, without cost, to receive updates at your e-mail
address. Articles are listed with a brief synopsis of the
content, and licking on the link takes you to the full document.
ERIC Digests
Searchable
database of ERIC information and publications.
Kids Count Data Book 2003
The Annie E.
Casey Foundation's annual report provides information on the
well-being of disadvantaged and at-risk children. State by state
reports can be generated from their database. You can easily
download PDP files to give you state profiles and trends for
state rankings. Databases are also available on county, city,
and community level information on children and one containing
geographical census data. Very useful when putting together
grant responses that want to know about your community
demographics.

National Center for Education Statistics
This is the
place to go for statistics. Reports are available on-line in
their entirety, or you can order them through the website. Click
on a Fast Facts topic and you will receive background
information and a list of related tables and figures. There is a
search engine that allows you to call up a statistical profile
of any school in the US, public or private.
National Institute for Literacy (LINCS)
LINCS is the
literacy community's gateway to the world of adult education and
literacy resources on the Internet. The goal of LINCS is to
bring adult literacy-related resources and expertise to a single
point of access for users throughout the world.
Nemours Foundation Kidshealth
Sponsored by
the Nemours Foundation, this site provides accurate,
doctor-approved, jargon-free health information about our
children from birth through adolescence. It offers separate
sites for kids, teens and parents. Each section has
age-appropriate content and instructional tone and offers
thousands of original articles, animations, interactive
activities, games and resources developed by health experts.

This website
provides information on school report cards for individual
districts, a directory of contact people in all areas, teacher
certification, NCLB, the latest field memos, and much, much
more.
New York State Extended School Day
Violence Prevention Technical Assistance Center
This site is
funded by SED in collaboration with ASPIRA of NY, and can help
you to access violence prevention information, strategies,
policies, research, funding and legislation. The mission of
ASPIRA is directed toward NYC schools, there are good resources
on the site for every NYS school. There are links especially for
administrators, parents, schools, teachers and youth.

This site is
