NETWORKING ACADEMY
CURRICULUM
OVERVIEW
CCNA
In
cooperation with Cisco Corporation, this unique program is
being offered at Schenectady High School to students
beginning in 11th grade. Students will learn theory, design,
implementation, and maintenance of computer networks. The
program consists of four-1/2 unit courses (Cisco 1, 2, 3,
and 4) given one per semester over junior and senior years.
The courses prepare students to take industry recognized
certification tests – either the Cisco Certified Entry level
associate (CCENT) or the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
The
following are prerequisites to enter the program:
1.
Students must have a minimum of a B- cumulative average at
the end of 10th grade or special permission of the
instructor.
2.
Attendance and discipline records in 9th and 10th grades
must reflect a positive attitude toward learning and
becoming a professional.
3.
Students should have an interest in and experience working
with computers.
4.
Students must have completed Geometry.
5. A
student/parent contract must be signed upon acceptance to
the program.
Students
who participate in this program will have the opportunity to
receive college credit from Schenectady County Community
College through the University in High School program.
IT ESSENTIALS
In addition to
the Networking (CCNA) coursework, Cisco has developed
curriculum that prepares students for the Comptia A+
certification. A+ is the industry recognized certification
for entry level computer repair and support technicians. IT
Essentials: PC Hardware and Software is a hands-on,
career-oriented e-learning solution with an emphasis on
practical experience to help students develop fundamental
computer skills, along with essential career skills. The
curriculum helps students prepare for entry-level IT career
opportunities and the CompTIA A+ certification, which helps
students differentiate themselves in the marketplace to
advance their careers.
Students
who participate in this program will have the opportunity to
receive college credit from Schenectady County Community
College through the University in High School program.
