Varicella Vaccination Law Requirement

Students Entering 6th Grade Must be Vaccinated Against Varicella (Chickenpox)
....

It is the New York State Public Health Law, Section 2164 that all all children entering the 6th grade as of September 1, 2005, have received the Varicella (Chickenpox) vaccination.

The School Health Office must receive written notification from your child's doctor that either:

1.  The Varicella Vaccine has been given or

2.  History of Varicella (Chickenpox) disease as documented by a health care provided.  (Parental recall of disease history is not acceptable proof of immunity) or

3.  Serologic proof of immunity to Varicella (blood test results)

Your child will not be able to begin school in September until the school nurse has obtained this documentation.

You may call your doctor or the Schenectady County Public Health Department at 346-2187 to schedule an appointment for immunization.
