School Board adopts
$159 million budget Residents head to poll
on May 21; Polling places
have changed
The Schenectady City School
District Board of Education
adopted a 2013-2014 Budget
of $159,294,735. The
spending plan is a 2.08%
increase over the current
year, includes a one percent
impact on the tax levy and
is well below the school tax
levy limit. This is the
first time in three years
that the district is asking
for a levy increase.
Closing a gap of $10
million, resulted with the
elimination of 105
positions, larger classes,
program and schedule
modifications, closing a
school, reorganization and
more. Some earlier proposed
cuts to non-mandated
programs such as the fine
arts and library program
have been restored.
