Congratulations PTO Council
Group Receives National Recognition in PTO Today for hard work, ideas

Congratulations to the Schenectady City School District PTO Council for receiving national recognition in the PTO Today magazine.  Schenectady received two nods.  One is an honorable mention by PTO Today for the magazine's "Outstanding New Group of the Year" contest.  The PTO Council was also credited with one of the "26 Great Ideas" of the year, for handing out ices skates to kids on Saturdays at Central Park.

As the result of hard work and under the leadership and guidance of Schenectady's parent liaison Catherine Caravan,  the PTO Council has taken huge strides in a short period of time.  The group has increased outreach to parents 130% using email.  They have volunteered for many events including the Winter Carnival, sorting school supplies that were donated by the Junior League, sold tickets to Schenectady Day at the Great Escape and more.

The Council meets every other month to discuss best practices for parent involvement, ways to improve events at school and fundraising ideas.

Last February the Council members provided free ice skates to kids on Saturdays at Central Park.  PTO Council representatives from ten schools were on hand at the Central Park Winter Carnival to hand out skates, serve 2500 people at the concession stands, as well as with the chili contest, hayride and sledding.

The PTO Council is comprised of members of the school PTOs and Friends of Music.  Congratulations to Canavan  and the following members:

Tracy Church, Sheila Freres, Denise Della Villa, Aisha White, Bernice Dickens-Gray, Jessica Kanciruk, Angela Apang, Aurora Santiago, Kathy Finch, Colleen Traficante, Melissa Hughes, Christine Mennillo, Greta Obach, Don Liebers, Steve Weisse, Gary Farkas, Jane Baldauf, Jamie Lichorette, Bill Kaufmann, and Teresa Fitzmaurice.
