Schenectady
H.S. evacuated this afternoon
for nearly two hours
Polling place is open
At approximately
1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 8, Schenectady High School was
evacuated for about an hour and 45 minutes due to two unrelated
incidents that took place simultaneously. No one was injured.
First, a student
reported to high school administration that another student was
carrying a grenade in a backpack. While the administrator was
investigating the claim, a garbage can in a bathroom in the same
wing of the building was on fire. The fire alarm was
immediately pulled. The police and fire department responded
immediately.
Emergency
responders determined that the student did have a grenade with
the core hollowed out. As such, it could not cause harm.
One student was
taken into custody. Police continue to investigate both
incidents.
Students and
faculty were allowed back into the building about 3:15 p.m.
The polling place
at Schenectady High School is open.
