Tedisco, Amedore join Schenectady schools for
“America’s Legislators Back to School” kick-off

Two Schenectady schools had special visitors this week as they kicked off “America’s Legislators Back to School,” program.  Assemblyman George Amedore spent some time with the 6th graders King Magnet School Tuesday morning and Assemblyman James Tedisco met with the students at Elmer Avenue Elementary School on Wednesday.

America's Legislators Back to School kicks off the third week each September and runs through the school year.  The program gives elected officials the opportunity to meet with students to answer questions, share ideas, listen to concerns and impart a greater understanding of the legislative processes necessary for developing effective public policy and engaged citizens.

The program began as a pilot in 1999 and proved successful in getting young people interested in the political process.  According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, the program results in significantly higher levels of understanding and appreciation of representative democracy among middle school students.
