The
Schenectady City School District Educational Foundation
recently held the annual Education Celebration at the
Stockade Inn. The gala celebrated the achievements of
the students and staff of the Schenectady City School
District and reflected on some of the school district's
finest achievements and most generous benefactors.
Entertainment was provided by the Schenectady High School
Chamber Choir.
The foundation
recognized members of the school community by presenting
Crystal Apple Awards. Gary Comley received the
Outstanding Alumnus Award. Reverend Phil Grigsby,
Rowie Taylor and Kay Ackerman accepted the Community
Education Advocate Award on behalf of Schenectady County
Embraces Diversity, which was honored for its contributions
to the schools and the county. Schenectady City School
District Teacher of the Year, Kathleen Ferguson was also
recognized by the foundation.
The mission of
the Schenectady City School District Educational Foundation
is to provide funding for the enhancement of learning
opportunities not otherwise available to the student in
Schenectady schools. Past donations have been used to
support a greenhouse for science projects, field trips,
drama productions, classroom literacy centers, equipment for
Speedminton, music equipment and instruments, a weather
science center and more.
The Education
Celebration is a tribute to the students and adults who have
contributed to that mission.
