Capital District Basketball Hall of Fame
Charlene
Carter still in top ten for career records
in six categories at Marist
Congratulations
to Charlene Carter, 4th grade teacher at Paige Elementary School
who was inducted into the Capital District Basketball Hall of
Fame on June 26, 2011 at a celebration held at the Crowne Plaza
Hotel in Albany.
Carter was a
three year varsity standout player at Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons
High School 1985-1989 before earning a full scholarship to
Division I Marist where she is in the top ten in six categories
for career records.
Carter has
broken records and received many awards both at ND-BG and
Marist.
While at Notre
Dame-Bishop Gibbons High School, Carter's team captured three
Big 10 Championships (1985-86, 1987-88, 1988-89), Class A
Section II Championship (1985-86) and placed first in the
NYSPHSAA tournament (1985-1986).
She holds three
records at NDBG including Most Career Points (1,236), Most
Points in One Season (540) and Most Points Scored in One
Game (42).
During her
junior year at ND-BG, Carter was:

the Troy Record Athlete of the Week

Carter
was a four year starter at Marist College from 1989-1993.
When she graduated in 1993, she was second on the all-time
scoring list. Today she is 5th with 1,436 points.
She still holds the record for total points in a single game (37
points).

Tom
Chestnut and Mike Doyle, both former players at Linton High
School were also inducted in the Capital District Hall of Fame.
Chestnut went on to play at Princeton and Doyle played at Union
College.
Jimmer Fredette
was awarded the Sam Perkins Sportsmanship Award.
