Update
Summer Construction Projects


You've probably noticed that many of Schenectady’s schools have been undergoing construction work this summer.  The work, all part of the 2007  capital project, includes safety and security updates, handicapped accessibility, modernizing heating systems and replacing roofs and building updates. 

Summer work is currently underway at Hamilton Elementary School, Central Park International Magnet School, Martin Luther King Magnet School, Van Corlaer Elementary School, Woodlawn Elementary School and the Steinmetz Educational Center.  

The summer 2009 building projects are:

Hamilton Elementary School

  • New boilers, plumbing work, electric work
  • New hallway floor (basement), door replacement
  • Limited asbestos abatement
  • Bathroom upgrades
  • HVAC work, new chimney stack, asbestos abatement

 Central Park International Magnet School

  • Basement gym floor replacement
  • Interior painting
  • New bus loop and parent drop off
  • New front entrance (steps)
  • New playground
  • New stairs leading to playfield
  • New fence, sidewalk
  • Roof work on parapet
  • New roof and masonry

Martin Luther King Magnet School

  • New addition (12000 sq ft.) middle school science, cafeteria, classrooms
  • New parking lots
  • New front entry
  • New exterior parking lot lighting

Schenectady High School

  • New synthetic football field and lighting   < PHOTOS HERE >
  • Track resurfacing
  • Gym floors refinished
  • New 18,000 sq ft addition (science rooms)
  • New parking lot and bus loop
  • Exterior security cameras
  • New entrance with security station

Steinmetz

  • New roof

Van Corlaer Elementary School

  • Exterior masonry restoration
  • Roof replacement
  • New boilers and hot water system (plumbing)
  • Asbestos abatement
  • Work to power system

 Woodlawn  Elementary School

  • New playground
  • New fire alarm
  • Exterior site work (parking lots, bus loop)
  • Handicap lift

Other major projects, including the six-classroom addition at Paige, were completed over the last year.  Work in other buildings will begin or continue in the fall.  See the complete list of project highlights HERE.
