Schenectady Board Member Resigns
James Casino
submitted his resignation from the Schenectady City School
District Board of Education effective Friday, January 15, 2010.
Casino, who has
been a member of the school board since 1999, submitted his
letter to the clerk of the board today, citing personal, family
and professional reasons.
“On behalf of the
school district administration and staff, students and their
families, I wish to thank Mr. Casino for his dedication,
commitment, volunteer hours and everything he has done over the
last ten years as a board member,” said Eric Ely, superintendent
of schools. “I am very grateful for his years of service to the
students of Schenectady.”
In his letter,
Casino expressed his gratitude to the district employees,
community, neighbors, friends and family for their support over
the years.
“I cannot say
enough wonderful things about the Schenectady City School
District, the committed administration, the accomplished faculty
and dedicated staff, many of whom I’ve had the pleasure to work
with during my decade plus of service,” wrote Casino. “I will
always be a strong advocate for our city, our community and
especially our schools.”
“I would like to
thank Mr. Casino for his years of service and I wish him and his
family well,” responded Maxine Brisport, president of the school
board. “The board of education will need to discuss how to
respond to his resignation and I anticipate that dialogue will
begin at our next scheduled board meeting.”
The board of education has three options regarding the vacant
seat. They can choose to appoint a qualified individual to fill
the seat until May 18, 2010 (the next scheduled election), leave
the seat vacant until May 18, 2010 or hold a special election to
elect a new board member who would fill the seat through June
30, 2011 (the remainder of Mr. Casino’s term of office).
