Battle
of the Cans
Mont Pleasant & Oneida compete while they work as a team!
The students and
staff of Oneida Middle School challenged those at Mont Pleasant
Middle School to a spirited food collection contest. The
schools battled to collect more food items than the other, all
of which would be donated to the Concerned for the
Hungry annual food drive.
The middle school
principals worked hard to keep the students and staff on task
during the event which was held a couple weeks before
Thanksgiving. The contest was strong and spirited
throughout the final week.
It
came down to the last moments of the competition. A few
days before the contest was over, Mont Pleasant was down
by 100 cans. But, it didn't stay that way for long.
In just one day, Mont Pleasant closed the gap to 50 items and
then took the lead by less than 20 items the very next day.
The contest ended
November 18. The final count: Mont Pleasant
collected 1026 items. Oneida collected 1005 items.
Even after the contest was over, a few more cans came in, making
this food drive even more successful.
While the two
schools competed against one another, their teamwork and
efforts brought in more than 2000 items which were all
donated to the area food bank.
