Seniors Enjoy Dinner and Entertainment at Annual Event
More
than 200 Schenectady senior citizens enjoyed a relaxing evening
of entertainment and dinner Wednesday, November 14 at the 7th
annual Schenectady City School District Moonlight Serenade held
at Schenectady High School. The event, free to all
Schenectady senior citizens, was catered by students from the
culinary program at Career Center at Steinmetz.
Entertainment was provided by Schenectady High School students.
Master of
Ceremonies William O'Connor welcomed the guests. O'Connor kept
his audience attentive and laughing often. He broke out
into song, encouraging audience participation, and drew laughter
after a few short jokes.
Throughout
the room and across the many tables, it was clear by the smiles
and chatter that guests were enjoying the community event from
the moment O'Connor took the floor straight through dinner and
entertainment.
School Board
President Jeff Janiszewski welcomed everyone. He thanked
everyone for coming to the special event and said he is happy
that they are interested in seeing the many great things that go
on in Schenectady High School.
The Sayles School
of Fine Arts Jazz Band followed by the Jazz Combo, both directed
by Jason Hyatt performed an array of musical pieces. The
jazz band performed Get It On, Someone to Watch Over me, On
Broadway, Critical Mass and Mack the Knife. The
Jazz Combo got toes tapping and heads swaying with Slew Foot,
Caravan and Mr. PC, each arranged by student
saxophonist Josh Mlodzianowski.

members include: Saxophones - Josh Mlodzianoski, John Fitzmaurice , Ryan Quinn, Joshua Fields and
William Dobson; Trumpets - Ethan Dobson, Mitchell Burke,
Alexandra Weisse, Jennifer Nechaman, Ben Carlson, Chris Kloster;
Trombones - Ben Carlson, Aden Brooks, Ben Clark; Piano - Kevin
Carey; Guitar - Cody Rule, Zachary Brehm; Bass - Dayshawn Mojica;
Drums - Vinny Fazio, Aaron Williams, Phil Fisher and Dayvon
Mojica.
Jazz
Combo members include Joshua Mlodzianowski on alto sax, John
Fitzmaurice on tenor sax, Mitchell Burke on trumpet, Kevin
Carey, pianist, Code Rule on guitar, William Dobson on Bass and
Dayshawn Mojica on the drums.
Entertainment also
included nine piano solos including: America the Beautiful -
Kim Britten, Stars and Striped Forever - Andrew Doedema
and Shannon Whitcomb, Fur Elise - Alex Pinn, Arabesque
- Ashlee Faught, Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch - Cody Rule,
Boulevard of Broken Dreams - Zach Brehm, The Promise -
Phil Gminski, Waltz Op 69 #2 - Josh Carpenter and
Sun Flower Slow Drag - Scott Hartz.
Many Schenectady
High School students bustled around the cafeteria throughout the
evening greeting guests, serving the salad, turkey dinner and
dessert that was prepared by the culinary students as well as
clearing tables and cleaning up.
The students were
smiling as broad as the guests they were serving.
The Moonlight
Serenade is held each year during Veterans’ Week. While
each year, the event draws about 200 senior citizens,
Wednesday night's had the best attendance to date.
