Schenectady Civic Players Helps
Yates Raise Money
for Arts Programs and Opportunities
Yates Magnet School is raising money
to pay for enhanced theater and
literacy experiences. However,
the school is not doing it alone.
Schenectady Civic Players has agreed
to sponsor fund-raising raffles that
will benefit both their theater and
the arts programs at the K-6 magnet
school. The school already
received $600 from the first raffle.
"We are pleased to cooperate with
this joint venture to benefit arts
programming," said Players President
Patricia Hoffman, who delivered the
first check - in the amount of $600
- to Yates Principal Valarie
Scott and the school's Parent
Partnership Team. "This is a
win/win situation," added Hoffman.
In addition for helping to pay for
enhanced theater and literacy
experiences for Yates kids, the
raffle money will also help
pay for improvement to the SCP
theater on Church St. in the
Stockade.
The raffles are held in conjunction
with each of the five Schenectady
Civic Players shows. The
raffles which include gift
certificates as well as merchandise,
have been donated by local
businesses such as The Open Door
Bookstore, Experience, and Ferrari's
Ristorante.
Richard Roe, teacher at Yates said
the money will go toward sets of
books, repairing instruments, field
trips to the Stockade and more.
He is hoping more merchants donate
prizes.
SCP will be holding an art reception
in March to celebrate the opening of
"Inventing Van Gogh," which will
also benefit Yates' programming.
