Students to connect  live with astronauts
aboard the International Space Station.

On January 7, 2005, students at Central Park Middle School will connect live with astronauts aboard the International Space Station via a NASA video downlink.  Students will interact with a crew on board the International Space Station.  They will see and hear the crew members live from space.

The event will take place from 9:50am - 10:10am in the Central Park Middle School library.

The program will be aired nationwide live on NASA Television  (Channel varies depending upon local provider listing), Time Warner Cable Channel 17 in Schenectadyor online.

This is an extraordinary opportunity for the students of Central Park and the Schenectady School District.  Central Park, the first NASA Explorer School in New York State, is currently the only New York school scheduled to talk to the International Space Station astronauts during the 2004-2005 school year.

NASA TV will show a video file about the SEM-Satchel project at 12 p.m.  (EST or EDT), with replays at 3 p.m., 6 p.m., 10 p.m., 12 a.m., 6 a.m. and  10 a.m.

You can watch NASA TV on the web at http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/

Students prepare for the downlink by  researching information and their
questions  for the crew.

The Central Park NASA Explorer School is sharing this opportunity with the entire Schenectady School District.  Student representatives from Schenectady's elementary schools, all three middle schools, and the high school will be on hand with questions for the astronauts.  Matthew J. Kuss Middle School in Fall River, Mass. will also be asking questions of the astronauts.

To maximize the impact of the live downlink, planning for this event involves preparation of the participants, educators, parents and the community.  A live downlink generates interest and excitement, supporting and enhancing education objectives and initiatives.  Preparing for the downlink by learning about the astronauts, Expedition Ten and space travel in general is a critical part of the process and will enhance the experience.  This Website provides an outline of the process and necessary preparation as well as an array of resources and links to previous downlinks.

Do you have a question?  We'll get an answer.
The Central Park NASA Explorer School will also be accepting questions about the International Space Station, Expedition Ten and topics related to Travel In Space,  through the Website until January 14, 2005.  Please submit any questions you may have and the  Central Park Explorer students will use their extraordinary resources and contacts with NASA experts to find the answers to your questions.  You can submit your questions at any time and questions and answers will be posted on the Website.
