Mont
Pleasant Middle School seventh graders

tell their stories through art
The seventh graders at Mont Pleasant Middle School put their
creative energy to work by creating self portraits.
Before they began drawing, the students analyzed self
portraits created by an array of artists. They learned
that self portraits are not limited to a picture of a face
but can tell a story about the artist's life.
The students
had their picture taken and then opened and edited the
photos in Adobe Photoshop. Each student then
transferred his or her printed portrait on to drawing paper.
Instead of shading the dark areas of the picture, they each
filled the space with their autobiographies.
