Mont
Pleasant 7th graders learn about parenting
while caring for "egg babies"
The
7th grade students in Diane Tanner and Sarah Johnson's Home and
Career Skills class at Mont Pleasant Middle School created "egg
babies" as part of the parenting unit. The
students were required to care for their "babies" for four days,
carry them everywhere and make journal entries. When
the students were in PE or other classes, they were allowed to
place their babies in babysitting until class was over.
"Students did an
amazing job and really took caring for their babies seriously,"
said Johnson.
She said the
teachers also got involved with the project by creating their
own baby ICU areas in the classrooms to help students whose eggs
needed to be mended.
Johnson said the
students who have not had a chance to participate in the project
are looking forward to the opportunity next year.
"Students who
completed the project realized the major responsibilities of
taking care of a newborn baby," said Johnson.
