2011 - 2012  Magnet Lottery

All students residing within the Schenectady City School District are eligible to apply for admission to any of the district's magnet school through the annual lottery process conducted in May.

• The Academy of Culture and Communication at Pleasant Valley Elementary School - Grades K-5
   
• Central Park International Magnet School - Grades K-8
   
• Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Math, Science Technology and Invention Magnet School - Grades K-8
   
• Yates Arts in Education Magnet School - Grades K-6

Process

Students are selected for admission through a lottery process that will be conducted on May 2, 1:30 p.m. at Keane  Administration Building, Office of Federal and State Programs, 1252 Albany Street, Schenectady, NY  12304.

Applications will be notified by mail regarding whether they were selected for admission or placed into a wait pool for future openings at the school requested.

Application Timeline

• April 1: Applications are due back by 1:30 p.m.
  
  Mail to:  SCSD Office of Federal and State Programs
              Magnet School Office
              1252 Albany Street
              Schenectady, NY  12304
   
• May 2:  Magnet Lottery held at Office of Federal and State Programs
             1:30 p.m.
   
• May 2:  Acceptance letters are sent out
   
• May 20:  Acceptance letters are due back to Magnet School Office by 1:30 p.m.

Currently Enrolled in Magnet School

If you child currently attends one of the magnet schools, you do not need to fill out an application unless he or she wishes to attend a different magnet school next year.
